NLA Accreditation

Landlord Development

The NLA has always supported accreditation schemes throughout the UK. However, our members communicated that there is no central nationally recognised scheme that landlords utilise. As a result we piloted a scheme based on our core foundations of landlord development, the code of practice as well as a complaints process. Our aim is to make the scheme open to all landlords. If you are already a member accreditation is free by doing the foundation course on the NLA’S Landlord library. If you prefer to do the course in attendance there is a charge, for more information please see our landlord development area.

If you are not an NLA member, you can chose to join the NLA as a whole or if you prefer just to become accredited. The price in either case is our annual subscription fee of £80 (plus an £18 administration charge) It is clearly more advantageous to join the NLA as a whole so that you are able to benefit from all the other services that we can provide.

To achieve accredited status landlords need to complete the NLA Foundation Course.

My NLA Landlord
Is your landlord an Accredited Landlord and/or a member of the National Landlords Association?

Code of Practice
The NLA Code of Practice (CoP) is designed to raise and maintain standards in the private-rented sector.

Complaints Process
The National Landlords Association includes a complaints process between landlords and tenants as part of the scheme. In the first instance any complaint will be handled by the NLA's Accreditation Development Officer. The NLA recognizes the importance of dealing with any complaint properly and effectively. Often problems are due to lack of communication. The NLA will seek to remedy issues. However, if the complainant would like to pursue a more formal procedure, then both landlord and tenant will be invited to follow a written process. This involves the complainant providing a summary of the problem. The Landlord is then invited to make a short response. In the event of the complaint not being resolved in this way, both landlord and tenant may be offered access to a Independent adjudication whose decision will be binding.
